Museum of Prehistoric Slovakia was established in the area of “Prepost Cave“ in 2007. It is an open-air educational exposition displayed directly on the spot valuable for having been occupied by Neanderthal Man. Visitors can become familiar with the time period he lived in, his way of life inside the community, tools he made, tools that were discovered, animals that lived in the territory of Bojnice, the way he hunted these animals, animal bones found here and many other interesting facts about the time when every day was meant to be a fight for life... There is a diorama featuring the life of prehistoric people in front of the massive travertine overhang.
Despite its location (in the very centre of Bojnice) the area around the Prepost Cave (the grounds of the museum) preserved the look of wild nature untouched by human beings. While there is a town pulsating with the life of 21st century not far away, on the grounds of the museum you are experiencing the feeling of being found in the real wilderness – in the heart of prehistoric nature.
