The Castle is the most important dominant of the town Levice. It is from the end of the 13th century. It stands on top of volcanic rock protuberance above the swamps of the Hron river. It was the sentry fort guarding the road leading to central Slovakian mining towns. Ruins of a Gothic castle, which was build in the beginning of 13th century. It was rebuilt in a Renessaince style in 16th century. The castle was destroyed in 18th century. Nowadays, Tekov museum is located in preserved parts of the castle.

The Tekov Museum was founded in 1927 thanks to Joseph Necsey, postmaster at Vrable who donated an extensive and valuable collection to the town Levice.
The Museum gradually collected ethnographic, historical, archaeological, natural history and art objects.
